Ljubljana is a great city and well worth returning to in summer

Ljubljana is a small charming city with a population of around 300’000 people. I have spent two nights in the Celica Hostel, which so far has been the most unique and fun place to stay in. On Tuesday night when I arrived, already lots of people where standing outside and where talking and enjoying a drink together. Inside there was a Jazz-Band playing and also an Art Gallery viewing was in progress. It later turned out that this happens every Tuesday night and as I read on Friday too. The Hostel is an ex-Prison and all rooms have been decorated in a different theme. The Staff was very friendly too.

Listening to the Band playing and drinking a Beer was a perfect start in the evening. Shortly after I already met some locals. We were chatting all night and I got some great recommendations for the next day.

ljubljana old town

The town is so small that it is hard to get lost even without a map or any directions. Also everyone seems to speak perfectly English and is very happy to help. I walked around town and sat in some cafes along the River Ljubljanica. It is also worth to hike up the hill to the castle and take in the view from there. It is a very steep path and well worth the effort. To sum things up, I thought Ljubljana is a great place and I definitely want to come back in summer again when it is possible to sit outside.

So far I just stayed in cities and it was mostly easy to travel, I do intend to get a bit out of cities to see the countryside as well on my trip from London to Singapore by train.
