London and Eurostar train travel to Lyon via Paris

195m below ground is the deepest point the Eurostar train runs under the British Channel. The route connects London with Paris in less than 3 hours. It only takes 20 minutes to
travel the 50km below sea level. This is my first train journey on my trip from London to Singapore. I am travelling in Coach 5 in Seat 61.

London hasn’t changed much in the past ten month since my last visit to this great city. Nevertheless I noticed some improvements and additions to the London skyline and shopping streets during my short stay last weekend. The Shard building opened it’s doors to visitors just a few weeks ago. I can still remember when construction work started almost 5 years ago when I used to live in Elephant & Castle. Now the building is one amongst the tallest buildings on the London Skyline. Visitors can enjoy magnificient views from the observation floors. But at a very steep price of 25£. So I just took a picture from London Bridge – at no cost. Below are pictures I took in London.

Of course the real reason why I went to London and used it as the official starting point of my trip are my friends over in London. I had a blast seeing everyone and going out for drinks and food. On Saturday we went to the good old Bear & Stuff Pub in Leicester Sq. where we got the same table as always. The day after we went for a walk along the river Thames and hoped to find a table at The Dove pub, which claims to have the smallest bar in the world. We still don’t believe it.

Monday was the day to get my last rabbies jab. I have been at the London Travel Clinic. I was well surpised that they were very quick and haven’t asked many questions. It was more like you-tell-us-what-you-want and they gave me the third rabbies jab.

I haven’t encountered any problems on my trip to Lyon. I had a very short interchange in Paris from Gare du Nord to Gare de Lyon. Only 30 minutes to go from one station to the other didn’t offer lot of room for delays. For some reason my metro ticket didn’t work and I had no way of exchanging it or buying a new one. Luckily someone helped me and sold me his – probably I have paid a little too much but anyway it allowed me to hope on the green RER that was waiting on the plattform. I guess I was very lucky, as I had no minute to spare.
